A 17-year-old girl has been sentenced to a year in a secure unit after attacking someone with a machete in November.

The teenager entered a guilty plea in April, admitting she had possession of the machete at the time of the attack, but denied intending to use it to cause harm.

The Royal Court found the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, guilty of grave and criminal assault and for possession of an offensive weapon.

She was also given a three year restraining order.
