Bailiwick Law Enforcement reminded drivers to move "incredibly slowly" if they needed to mount a pavement

Guernsey police officers have warned they will consider prosecution for motorists who drive on the pavement.

In a social media post, Bailiwick Law Enforcement reminded drivers to move "incredibly slowly" if they needed to mount a pavement to pass an obstruction.

It urged drivers to take caution as hot weather meant more people would be travelling around the island using footpaths and pavements.

It added pedestrians were the most vulnerable road users and drivers should take time to check pavements were clear.

The force said: "We'd like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to ensure that if they do need to mount the pavement while driving to pass an obstruction, they must do so incredibly slowly and dismount as soon as they can.

"It is entirely unacceptable to drive at anything but a crawl along a pavement: it puts pedestrians at risk, and makes exiting driveways and lanes dangerous.

"If you're caught cruising down the entire length of a pavement, we can and will consider prosecution."
