A group of youths assaulted an elderly man after he asked them to stop kicking a park litter bin.

Leicestershire Police said the 76-year-old dog walker was pushed to the ground and kicked after he challenged the teenage boys' behaviour.

He suffered a cut to his head in the attack which happened in the recreation ground, off Coventry Road, in Lutterworth, at about 15:35 BST on Monday.

The boys were aged between 14 and 16 and one of them wore a black tracksuit, trainers and a gold necklace, the force said.

Anyone with information about the attack has been urged to contact the police.
