Seven jailed after teen stabbed in city centre

Seven people have been jailed over a city centre stabbing.

The 19-year-old victim was found on Upper Precinct in Coventry with multiple serious injuries after being chased by a group during the early hours of 6 October.

West Midlands Police said it was unclear why he was attacked.

"There's no justification for carrying a weapon and it's just sheer fortune the victim was not even more seriously injured," said Det Ch Insp Adam Jobson.

Police said the victim had been at a music event before being chased.

According to the force, he was initially attacked by Prince Lhamy and Pious Adabie, who struck the teen with weapons. The pair were given the longest sentences, along with another man, Zachary Williams, who, like Adabie, was convicted of attempted murder.

The victim tried to escape, but was attacked by other members of the group.

Alexander Nzola, Jaiden Grant, Kennedy Ikwuemesi, Eniola Akingbesote and Hossame Madmoune either produced weapons or kicked him, before fleeing the scene.

Police said the investigation saw an extensive review of CCTV and phone records.

Eight men were sentenced in total at Warwick Crown Court on Friday. They included:

• Zachary Williams, 20, of Paradise Street, Coventry, was jailed for 22 years after being found guilty of attempted murder.

• Pious Adabie, 20, of Cleveland Street, Birmingham, was jailed for 21 years after being found guilty of attempted murder.

• Prince Lhamy, 20, of Whitefriars Lane, Coventry, was jailed for 16 years after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a bladed weapon and violent disorder.

• Kennedy Ikwuemesi, 21, of Wood Street, Greater London, was jailed for 54 months after being found guilty of wounding and violent disorder.

• Hossame Madmoune, 19, of no fixed address, was jailed for 57 months after being found guilty of wounding and violent disorder.

• Alexander Nzola, 21, of Bishop Street, Coventry, was jailed for 4 years after being found guilty of wounding and violent disorder.

• Jaiden Grant, 19, of Alfred Road, London, was jailed for 4 years after being found guilty of wounding and violent disorder.

• Eniola Akingbesote, 20, of Cleveland Street, Birmingham was given an 18-month community order after admitting possession of an offensive weapon.

"This was extreme violence and these men have quite rightly lost their freedom," said Det Ch Insp Jobson.

"We won't accept this type of behaviour in our city and we'll continue to take action to get knives off the streets."
