Car park on former council office site opens

A car park on the site of demolished council offices has opened.
The 238-space facility has been created at the former borough council offices at North Quay, Weymouth.
It can be used as a temporary car park for up to three years while plans to develop the harbourside site are decided.
Dorset Council said work to knock down and clear the building, carry out an archaeological excavation and build the car park came to £800,000.
The authority said it was paid for through the government's Brownfield Funding and the Levelling Up Fund.
The cost to use the new car park remains the same as the original council office facility - 50p for half an hour to £6 for 10 hours.
The authority had been spending about £10,000 a month maintaining the vacant office block.
The site was put up for sale in 2015 but was the subject of a number of failed proposals.
