Plans to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day in Guernsey are already underway, organisers have said.

Droves of islanders' celebrated Liberation Day on Thursday with a range of festivities throughout the day.

Deputy Sue Aldwell, member of the committee for education, sport, and culture said the celebrations were "absolutely wonderful".

Ms Aldwell said "a lot" has already been planned for 2025.

'Wonderful celebration'

Ms Aldwell said plans for an event stretching from North Beach to Castle Cornet are in the works.

The organiser said it was hoped "floats from the parishes" will be part of next year's festivities.

"It is going to be a wonderful celebration," she said.

"We want people to come down, and people to volunteer.

"Give an hour and make a difference."

Cavalcade director, Jeff Vidamour, said the event on Thursday was "absolutely fantastic".

Mr Vidamour said 115 vehicles took part in the event, and work for next year was due to start in June.

"We are hopeful that we get maybe 150 [vehicles] from outside the island," he said.
