Photos taken during one of the biggest games in a Scottish island football team's history have turned up at a car boot sale in Cumbria - 12 years after the camera was lost.

Martin MacLean, a player with Back FC, took the pictures when the Isle of Lewis club took on Avoch in the Highland Amateur Cup final in 2011.

Back, previous winners of the trophy, lost 5-1 in Inverness to Black Isle side Avoch.

The camera was later lost and somehow ended up in Cumbria where Maryport resident - and sports fan - Martin Hill was able download the images off the SD card and identify Back FC's badge on a player's shirt.

The club has been reunited with the 12-year-old images

The Lewis football club said it was delighted to be reunited with the photos.

The story was first reported by community newspaper Loch a Tuath News, external.

It is not known how the camera - which was broken - ended up in Cumbria after the final at Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC's ground.

One of Mr Hill's best friends came across it at a car boot sale.

Because Mr Hill's wife helps a local rugby league club with their photography she had a card reader to access the SD card.

Maryport's Martin Hill tracked down the club

Mr Hill said he mulled over looking at the card, but curiosity got the better of him and he linked the card reader to his TV.

He told BBC Naidheachdan: "And voila - there they were in all their glory."

Taking a picture of one of the players on his phone he was able to zoom in and spot the Back FC badge.

Mr Hill said: "I found them easily on Facebook and messaged them."

He said he hoped to one day make the nine-hour drive, which includes a ferry crossing, to Lewis to see Back FC in action.
