North East Lincolnshire Council says it is working on a new management plan for Cleethorpes Country Park.

A previous maintenance scheme was put in place in 2015 and expired in 2020.

Visitors to the park in recent weeks have been unhappy with its condition, with overgrown reeds and cracked paths among the complaints.

The council says it remained “committed to the continued maintenance and enhancement” of the park.

It was given local nature reserve (LNR) status in 2008 and the Defra website states, external "the local authority must control the land” and “as a manager of an LNR you need to care for and protect its natural features”.

Some residents have felt that had been neglected, but the council has assured those concerned it is tackling the issue of overgrown reeds and had addressed other complaints, such as loose mesh netting.

'Wider ongoing review'

The council said the new Country Park Management Plan will link in with its other key environmental strategies, including the Natural Assets Plan and the Cleethorpes Habitat Plan.

A spokesperson said: “This forms part of a wider ongoing review into all of our park plans and strategies, which we aim to complete over the coming years.

“In the meantime, maintenance as outlined in the 2015-2020 plan has continued and will continue until a new management plan is published.

“We are working hard to ensure that Cleethorpes Country Park is maintained and its natural environment preserved for all of our residents and visitors to benefit from well into the future.”
