Police are appealing for help following a stabbing and attempted robbery in Wellington earlier this month.

A man was left with stab wounds following the attack on Swains Lane on 7 March.

He was approached from behind before being punched by the offender and stabbed in the shoulder.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital.

'Extremely concerning incident'

Officers say the man they are looking for is white, around 5ft 8ins tall and in his early to mid-20s.

It is believed he was wearing a dark puffer jacket at the time of the attack.

Neighbourhood Sgt Jon O’Connor said: "This was an extremely concerning incident, but we do believe the risk to the wider public to be low.

"Nevertheless, officers have carried out extra high-visibility patrols in the area and continue to work hard to identify the person responsible."
