A driver had a "lucky escape" after crashing into a lamp post, police said.

It happened at the Caxton Gibbet roundabout on the A428 between St Neots and Cambridge just after 00:00 GMT.

There are ongoing works in the area as a new 10-mile (16km) stretch of dual carriageway is built through Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.

Cambridgeshire Police said no serious injuries were reported.

The force posted a picture on Facebook, external showing a badly damaged car on a verge next to a lamp post and sign, both leaning at an angle.

The post read: "The driver of this vehicle had a lucky escape after hitting the roundabout and crashing into a lamp post in Caxton just after midnight.

"Thankfully no serious injuries reported."
