A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with strangling and assaulting a woman while off-duty.

PC Mahad Abdalla, 26, who is attached to the Territorial Support Group, was arrested on Saturday and charged the following day with "non-fatal strangulation and assault", the force said.

He has been suspended from duties and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Inquiries by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards are ongoing, the force added.
