An Oasis fan was left stunned when her partner proposed during one of their favourite songs at the band's first comeback gig in Scotland.

Dwayne Yuill, 38, surprised Shell Hodge by getting down on one knee during the chorus of Slide Away at Murrayfield on Friday.

The Dundee couple, who have been together for six years, got tickets for the first of three Edinburgh concerts when they went on sale on Shell's 40th birthday.

And they endured a rollercoaster of emotions as the Gallagher brothers shared a stage in Scotland for the first time since 2009.

Shell told BBC Scotland News: "We were just singing along to Slide Away and then next thing I looked over and he was on his knee with a ring in his hand.

"I could not hear him he was just singing the chorus: 'Now that you're mine..."

"He did not need to say 'will you marry me?' it was pretty obvious what he was getting at."

Shell said she struggled to focus on the remainder of the concert.

She said: "People were saying 'congratulations'. "I kept looking at Dwayne and saying 'what have you done?'"

Shell was in her early teens when Oasis were at the peak in the 1990s and never got to see them.

Since they split she has been to Noel and Liam solo gigs but Friday was her first opportunity to see the Gallagher brothers together.

Shell met Dwayne when they were neighbours in 2019.

The couple have four children from previous relationships and a two-year-old daughter, Mirryn.

Shell was moved to learn Dwayne had secretly asked her elder children Courtney, 22, and Kyle, 19, for their mother's hand in marriage.

She added: "It is so touching that he thought to speak to them first.

"It was really considerate."

Shell said the couple had discussed marriage but she wasn't expecting the big moment to arrive at a 68,000 sell-out gig.

Dwayne said: "We had talked about it previously and I did want to propose.

"With the gig coming up I thought 'this is the perfect opportunity'.

"She always said she did not want it done in public!"

Dwayne admitted he was nervous on the night - as he did not know when the band would play the song.

He joked: "I tried to Google 'Oasis set list' on my phone but I couldn't get a signal."

"I was on edge but it was the best night ever."

The concert was also a poignant occasion for Dwayne, who wore a T-shirt with his late brother's name printed on the back.

And he admitted he was emotional when the band played Live Forever, just two songs after his proposal.

Earlier in the evening, the couple enjoyed warm-up sets from Cast and Richard Ashcroft before the crowd were whipped into a frenzy when Underworld's Born Slippy - from the original Trainspotting film - was played over the stadium sound system.

Asked about the moment Noel and Liam took to the stage, Shell said: "I think everybody was just ecstatic.

"The whole stadium was jumping. You could feel the vibrations."

She said some fans even left the stands to get on the Murrayfield pitch.

Shell added: "Everyone just lost control of themselves.

"The atmosphere was like no other concert I have been to."

The couple said they especially enjoyed Noel's rendition of Half The World Away and Liam's "perfect" voice on Cast No Shadow.

But Shell said Slide Away has long been a favourite and will now always have a special place in their hearts.

She added: "We just relate to those lyrics.

"We always have sing songs in the car."

Ahead of the proposal Dwayne tipped off a steward and a video of the big moment was posted on Instagram on Saturday.

The couple were blissfully unaware the footage was gaining traction online until their phones started to light up as they enjoyed some shopping in Edinburgh.

It took off to such an extent that they had to phone relatives to break the news, a day ahead of schedule, before they spotted it on social media.

Dwayne said: "It has been absolutely surreal."

The couple have yet to set a date but when they do tie the knot all bets are off as to what their first dance will be.

But Shell joked: "I think we are going to have a bucket hat wedding."
