New dates have been announced for a surfing competition in Jersey which was postponed due to poor weather.

The GB Surfing 2024 GB Cup was now to take place between Friday 25 October and Sunday 27 October at the Watersplash in St Ouen’s bay, bosses said.

The event was rescheduled after organisers anticipated a "lack of swell" during the original dates planned for October.

Event director David Ferguson said weather conditions leading into weekend should produce "the magical formula" for surfing.

'Prestigious event'

Organisers said they were anticipating waves in the 4ft to 5ft (1.2m to 1.5m) range, with light to moderate onshore winds.

Teams from England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands would be competing for the team and individual titles in the event, organisers said.

The winner of the annual competition would also have the chance to qualify for GB Surfing’s Progression Squad, a group of elite potential Olympic competitors, they added.

Former British champion and GB Surfing Director Arlene Maltman said: “The GB Cup is a prestigious event in the surfing calendar.

"The stage is set for what promises to be a high standard of British surfing talent."
