A teenager was arrested after a man was found with significant injuries near a car park in south Somerset.

The man in his 40s was found injured in Queensway Place, Yeovil, on Sunday night at about 22:20 BST. He was taken to hospital, where he is continuing to receive treatment.

A man in his late teens was arrested earlier in connection with the incident and remains in custody, Avon and Somerset Police said.

A cordon is in place at the nearby Tesco Extra car park on Monday, while police investigate. Officers are appealing for information and witnesses.

Det Insp Adam Knee said their investigation was at an early stage and it was currently unclear how the man sustained his injuries.

"We are keeping an open mind whether [the injuries] have occurred because of an accident or due to the actions of somebody else," he said.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Queensway Place area between 09:00-11:00 BST and may have seen something that could assist our investigation, or was driving near the car park and has relevant dashcam footage."
