A £600,000 project to resurface two junctions in a town centre is due to finish soon, a council has confirmed.

Crews have been working at the junction of Union Street, Orchard Street and New Street in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, for the past two weeks.

They have also been carrying out work on the New Street traffic island and its junction with High Street and Manor Drive.

Staffordshire County Council said overnight closures would remain in place until 8 August, when the resurfacing is due to be completed.

Councillor Peter Mason, the authority's cabinet member for highways, said it was "fantastic" to see the progress made on the project.

"These roads have seen years of heavy use, resulting in considerable wear and tear, and we're now delivering the much-needed reconstruction they require," he added.
