A 38-year-old man who died after being found with serious injuries suffered "compression of the neck", police have said.

Cambridgeshire Police said Neil Lakhani died at a property in Histon Road, Cambridge, on 17 September, after officers were called to "reports of violence".

They said post-mortem tests had shown that Mr Lakhani died as a result of compression of the neck.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with Mr Lakhani's murder.

"Neil Lakhani, 38, died at a property in Histon Road, after police were called with reports of violence at 11.39am," said police in a statement.

"Mr Lakhani, of Histon Road, was treated by paramedics but died at 12.15pm.

Police said "initial" post-mortem findings "concluded" that Mr Lakhani died "as a result of compression of the neck".

They said "further forensic tests" were required.

Police said Jonathon Austin, 23, of Histon Road, Cambridge, had been charged with murder.

They said he had made an initial court appearance and was next due to appear at Peterborough Crown Court for a "plea and trial preparation" hearing on 21 October.
