A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two people suffered stab wounds in an attack.

Avon and Somerset Police said the incident happened at about 06:20 BST on Monday on Baildon Road in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset.

A suspect in his late 30s is in custody and the two victims, also in their 30s, are in hospital in a serious but stable condition, the force added.

Police patrols have been increased in the area since the attack.

"We understand some members of the community will be concerned about the events of the last 24 hours, but those involved are known to each other and we do not believe there to be any wider threat to the public," a police statement said.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage in the moments building up to or immediately after the incident.
