Markets cancelled as storm brings wind and rain

Markets have been cancelled as the first named storm of the season, Storm Amy, is set to bring winds and rain.

Kidderminster Town Council, external said Saturday's market would not be taking place to ensure the safety of the public and stall holders.

And Saturday's Ross Market was cancelled, with the town council saying it made the "difficult decision" due to the yellow weather warning but the attraction was set to return next week.

Elseswhere, Cotswold Markets, external have also cancelled Saturday events in Worcester and further afield, including Witney, Swindon, Tewkesbury and Circencester.

A statement issued by Cotswold Markets said operations would resume on Monday, adding: "Due to the weather forecast of strong winds from Storm Amy, we have made the decision to cancel the [named] markets, for the safety of traders, public and our colleagues."

On Wednesay, the Applefest 2025 fruit festival was cancelled in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire.

Forecasters have said that Storm Amy will move to the north of the UK on Friday night and then heavy rain will sweep south east across England and Wales before easing later on Saturday.
