A 47-year-old man has been charged in connection with racially aggravated online posts.

The suspect, from Workington, is due to appear before North Cumbria Magistrates' Court at Carlisle.

Cumbria Police said it had arrested 12 people in recent days following riots and disorder across the country sparked by the fatal stabbing of three girls in Southport.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated public order offence and a man is in custody on suspicion of sending false information with intent to cause harm after officers received a hoax call saying a group of men brandishing knives had been seen in Barrow.
