The site of a building which led to the closure of a Dumfries town centre street due to fears it could collapse is in line for redevelopment.

Plans have been lodged to create 20 flats and a commercial unit on the English Street plot.

The area was closed to traffic for weeks in 2022 while the former Treasure Cave building was partially demolished.

The site - which is currently covered in rubble - is the subject of a planning application to Dumfries and Galloway Council.

The condition of the property caused significant disruption a little over two years ago due to safety concerns.

Much of it was eventually brought down in order to allow English Street to reopen.

Now developers have tabled redevelopment plans of "appropriate scale and design" which would "respect the historic character of the site as well as the amenity of neighbouring sites".

They say they want to bring "modern family living apartment units into the heart of Dumfries".
