Alderney's growers, farmers and fishermen are being encouraged to join a new group.

The General Services Committee (GSC) has appealed to members of the community to apply to serve in the Nature and Agricultural Stakeholder Group.

The group will oversee the progress of the Strategy for Nature and Agriculture, published earlier this year relating to food production and the management of natural resources to meet the objectives of the Island Plan.

Ten people with knowledge of the island's natural environment are wanted to form the group early in 2025.

The committee members said successful applicants would likely be:

  • Horticulturalists

  • Growers

  • Farmers

  • Fishermen

  • Members of the 'hedge veg' community

  • Allotment owners

  • Wellbeing and fitness tutors

  • Schools, nurseries and outdoor activities providers
