A man has been arrested after a dog bit a woman and a police officer in Edinburgh.

The animal initially attacked the woman in the Willowbrae area of the city at about 09:10.

It then turned on the male officer, who was responding to the incident, and ran from the scene. The officer required treatment at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The dog was later found on the old Restalrig Railway Path near Easter Road and seized by officers.

A 37-year-old man, the owner of the dog, was charged in connection with a number of offences.

He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
