Man wanted by police for six years finally sentenced

A man who failed for six years to hand himself in to police has finally been sentenced.
Zilvinas Zelekauskas was arrested for throwing bricks at another man who was waving a knife in Fydell Street in Boston on 2 December 2018.
When he failed to attend a hearing in August 2019, Boston magistrates issued a warrant for his arrest which was not executed until April when he handed himself in.
Lincoln Crown Court heard it was a "bit of a mystery" as to why the 30-year-old waited so long to surrender and sentenced him earlier to 130 hours of community work and £200 costs.
Zelekauskas, formerly of Taylor Close, Boston, previously admitted two charges of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and using threatening behaviour with intent to cause fear.
After handing himself in he also admitted a third charge of failing to surrender to custody after spending 71 months at large.
The court heard on the day of the disturbance Zelekauskas was covered in blood and appeared to be drunk. A third man was also seen arming himself with a spade.
Passing sentence, Judge James House KC said: "I appreciate it is now some seven years ago and I hope you are now ashamed how you behaved. But it is clear you were not the principal antagonist.
"Any incident involving waving a knife in the street is serious and you getting bricks and lobbing them at him only raised the temperature."
In mitigation, Leanne Summers said the defendant finally went to police after learning they wanted to speak to him.
The judge questioned why Zelekauskas had not handed himself in sooner, telling the court it was "a bit of a mystery", but added: "I suspect when no-one came knocking, you put it to the back of your mind."
