Man dead after fire breaks out at flat

Crews were called to a building on the Hagley Road in Birmingham during the early hours

A man has died after fire broke out at a flat.
West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the ground floor of a four-storey property on Hagley Road in Edgbaston, Birmingham, but nothing could be done to save the patient.
The fire, at about 04:30 BST, prompted the closure of the A456 Hagley Road, causing traffic to back up from B4182 Sandon Road to Meadow Road. The road has since reopened.
West Midlands Police said an investigation was under way to find out the circumstances of the man's death, and the cause of the fire.
Five fire crews were sent to the building, which is near the junction with Sandon Road. Two neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution.
