An appeal has been made to trace two men who absconded from an open prison in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Police said the pair left HMP Sudbury shortly after 18:10 BST on Friday and did not return.

Filipe Smith, 30, was serving a six-and-a-half year prison sentence after being convicted of Class A drug importation in Guernsey, the force said.

Patrick Gavin was in the Category D prison, serving a five-year and one-month sentence for causing grievous bodily harm with intent in 2020.

Police said Smith was known to have links to the Coalville area of Leicestershire, while Gavin had connections to the Market Harborough area.

Detectives are asking for anyone who has seen either man to get in touch.
