Man charged with murder after body found in flat

A 56-year-old man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a man's body at a flat in Stoke-on-Trent.

Police were called to the property on Linfield Road, Hanley, at about 21:30 GMT on Wednesday 12 November over a report a man had been discovered unresponsive inside.

He was prounounced dead at the scene, and has since been named as Stephen Lovatt, aged 55, of no fixed address.

The accused, Barry Scott Johnson, of Winsford, Cheshire, appeared before magistrates on Monday where he was remanded into custody to next appear before Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is being asked to contact Staffordshire Police.
