A man in his 80s has died after his car left the road and hit a tree in Leicestershire.

Police said the Kia Sportage driver died at the scene following the crash on the A5 - between the M69 near Hinckley and the B578 Lutterworth Road - at about 14:45 GMT on Monday.

No other vehicles were involved, the force said.

The road was closed in both directions between the M69 and A4303 at Lutterworth following the crash, but National Highways confirmed it had reopened just after 21:00.

Leicestershire Police have appealed for anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward.
