BBC Jersey team completes Children in Need swim

A team from BBC Jersey has completed its part in the Thousand Mile Challenge, external for Children in Need.

Local BBC stations across the British Isles all came together as they aimed to swim the big target for Pudsey.

It involved each station needed to swim at least 24 miles (38.6km) between Monday and Friday.

BBC Jersey’s team ended up swimming 27.3 miles (43.9 km) at AquaSplash’s pool in St Helier.

Alison Moss started the day for BBC Jersey in the pool and did 70 lengths on her final effort.

She said "this is brilliant" and she thanked Pudsey "for all his support".

Luca Bott Parkinson swapped his TV cameras for his swimming trunks for the challenge.

He added: "I’m so immensely proud of myself and the rest of the BBC Jersey team" and "I want people to support Children in Need as much as possible".

Children in Need has agreed to give Jersey Child Care Trust (JCCT) £109,916 next year for a three-year project that helps children with disabilities to attend mainstream nurseries.

Alice Bennion, from JCCT, said the grant funded two specialist support workers who would provide "critical support".

She came to the pool to cheer on the BBC Jersey team as they finished their part of the Thousand Mile Challenge.

Ms Bennion added "I mean it's incredible the challenge" and the team has shown "an amazing commitment".
