Man and woman killed after collision with BMW Mini

A man and a woman who were both in their 80s have died following a collision.

Norfolk Police said a white BMW Mini One collided with two pedestrians on the A148 at the junction with Avenue Road in High Kelling, Norfolk, at 16:20 GMT on Sunday.

The force said the man and woman, who were the pedestrians, died at the scene. A spokesman for the Diocese of Norwich described them as "much loved" members of "our church family".

The driver of the Mini, a man in his 50s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

He was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he remains.

The road was closed while emergency services, including an ambulance, attended the scene, and it was reopened just after 01:00 on Monday.

The force has appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the manner of driving of the Mini prior to the incident.

'Dearly missed'

In a statement, Reverend Canon Howard Stoker, the Rector of Holt with High Kelling, said his "thoughts and prayers" were with all those affected by "this double tragedy".

He added: "Understandably, members of our congregations are reeling in shock and filled with sorrow following the tragic death of two much loved members of our church family."

"They were loved and respected for their kindness, generosity and friendship by all who knew them and they will be dearly missed."

The statement said: "Coming to terms with such a loss and the manner of their death is incredibly difficult, but coming so close to Christmas makes it even harder.
