A man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a parked vehicle in Port Glasgow.

The Volkswagen Golf hit an unoccupied Peugeot car on Clune Brae at about 21:55 on Monday.

The 38-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said the 50-year-old female driver, who needed hospital treatment after the collision, was arrested and released pending further inquiries.

Officers investigating the circumstances of the crash have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Ch Insp David Doherty said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

"As our inquiries continue, we urge anyone who was in the area of Clune Brae and either witnessed the crash or has any information that may assist our investigation to contact us.

"Anyone with dash-cam or personal footage is asked to review it and please get in touch if it contains anything relevant to our investigation."
