A Chesterfield man who attacked a police officer and racially abused another victim has been jailed.

Gary Thompson was involved in an altercation at Caprinos Pizza in West Bars on 7 August at about 19:00 BST.

The 64-year-old, of School Board Lane, assaulted three people and used racist language towards a member of the public, Derbyshire Police said.

He pleaded guilty to a total of four charges, for which he was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.

Thompson pleaded guilty to racially aggravated abuse and assault of the same victim during the incident.

He also pleaded guilty to the assault by beating of a police officer on the same date, and the assault of a second member of the public.
