Man pleads guilty to causing fatal crash

A man has pleaded guilty to driving while drunk and killing one of his passengers and seriously injuring another in a crash.

Artur Mieszczak, 41, from Old Town in Swindon, was charged previously with causing death by driving without due care while over the prescribed limit of alcohol, causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured, and causing death by driving a vehicle while unlicensed.

He entered the guilty pleas on 4 March at Gloucester Crown Court, and will be sentenced there on 12 March.

The charges relate to a crash in Witcombe on 6 July 2023, in which a man was killed and a woman was seriously injured.

Mieszczak, who has been remanded in custody until sentencing, was arrested at the scene at Old Birdlip Hill following the collision.
