Liverpool John Lennon Airport received the highest customer score in the poll

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has been rated top in a passenger survey for the second year running - while Terminal 3 in neighbouring Manchester came bottom of the list.

The consumer group Which? spoke to about 5,000 people about their experiences at airports across the UK.

Staff in Liverpool were praised for their "friendly" and "good natured" manner, while travellers were also impressed with how quickly their luggage came through.

Some people complained of queues, long walks past broken travellators and difficulties finding a seat at Manchester's Terminal 3.

A Manchester Airport representative criticised the survey as misleading.

The Liverpool airport's CEO John Irving said he was "delighted" to receive the recognition and said the airport worked hard to make the "as stress free as possible" for travellers.

"We've got a constant customer focus here at Liverpool we do everything we can to make sure the experience is great," he said.

'Naturally friendly'

"We do really try hard to make sure the building works and the people naturally are friendly here.

"We try and make the experience as calm as possible because it's such a stressful thing to move through an airport and it doesn't need to be."

Manchester Terminals 1 and 2 were also near the bottom of the table.

Manchester Airport said the survey over-simplified ratings and was based on poor information, including factual inaccuracies.

A representative said the airport itself surveys "hundreds of people a month to get in-the-moment feedback from a full range of perspectives".

“Manchester Airport is proud to give people in all parts of the north easy and affordable access to nearly 200 different destinations across the world," they said.

"We also know they value an experience that caters for all needs, tastes and budgets, and through our £1.3bn Manchester Airport Transformation Programme we are creating world-class facilities that give them just that.

"Due for completion next year, it is already winning awards and receiving high levels of customer satisfaction."
