A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in Luton town centre.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries at 00:50 BST on Monday, Bedfordshire Police said.

The incident happened on George Street metres from where a 27ft-tall sculpture acting as a memorial to knife crime victims has been temporarily installed in St George's Square.

Police said a man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and remained in custody for questioning.

Det Con Craig Cullum said officers believed there was "no wider threat" to the community.

"We understand that people may be concerned, however we are treating this as an isolated incident," he added.
