Police have appealed for help in tracing a man after an arson attack in a North Yorkshire town.

Two cars were set on fire in the early hours of Monday in Thirsk's Market Place, destroying the vehicles and a nearby fence. The incident also forced a nearby pub to temporarily close.

North Yorkshire Police said it wanted to speak to 29-year-old James Murfitt and officers believed he was "in the Thirsk and Northallerton area".

Anyone with information has been asked to call 101, although 999 should be used to report any immediate sightings, officers added.
