Two women have been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found in a field in Inverclyde.

The body of Robert Best, 50, was discovered near High Mathernock Farm near Kilmacolm last week, hours after he had been reported missing from Greenock.

The women, aged 41 and 64, will appear in Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday. A 41-year-old man was also arrested and later released pending further inquiries.

They follow Stephen Shields, 44 and Andrew Brodie, 51, being charged with both murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice. Neither man entered any plea when they appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court last Wednesday.

A 45-year-old man was previously arrested in connection with assault and released pending further enquiries.

Officers had previously said they were looking into a report of a disturbance in Lansbury Street, Greenock, which took place between 23:00 on 10 November and 03:00 the following day.

Police Scotland said inquiries remain ongoing.
