Dog left tied to gate spends 400 days in care

A dog left tied to the gate of a rescue centre has been waiting for 400 days to find a new home.
Jamie, a two-year-old crossbreed, was abandoned outside the RSPCA’s site in York in September 2023.
Staff said they hoped to find a home for her before she spent her second Christmas in their care.
Mandy Broadhead, from the charity, said: “She can be timid around new people, but once you get to know her she’s incredibly loving and sweet."
Ms Broadhead said Jamie's appearance at the charity's shelter more than a year ago came as a surprise.
“We were all having our morning team meeting and looked out of the window to see someone had crept in and tied her to our gates.”
The charity managed to trace some previous owners but Ms Broadhead said it was "tricky to establish" where Jamie had come from as she had been passed around different homes.
According to the RSPCA its York shelter had rehomed 160 dogs so far this year.
Ms Broadhead said: “Poor Jamie has had to sit at her kennel door and watch as they all go off to their new homes with their tails wagging.”
