Second arrest as vehicles seized after car meet

A second person has been arrested and three vehicles seized as part of an ongoing investigation into a car meet.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it had been reviewing footage from a number of sources to identify those involved and any offences committed.

The event started at Winchester Park and Ride, before travelling around Hampshire and ending on Southsea seafront shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Chief Superintendent Darren O'Callaghan said: "This kind of anti-social behaviour and reckless driving has a considerable impact on our communities."

Three vehicles, a BMW M3, a Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf have been seized in order to facilitate further enquiries police officers said.

Initially a 19-year-old man from Swanmore was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, after a vehicle was stopped in Fareham just after 10pm.

A second man, aged 18, from Tadley has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle dangerously in Southampton, after it was a car was seen being driven whilst people were hanging out of the windows.

Both men have been released on bail.

Ch Supt Darren O'Callaghan said: "We were contacted by many local residents in the areas this meet passed through, who were extremely concerned about the manner in which vehicles were being driven.

"This kind of anti-social behaviour and reckless driving has a considerable impact on our communities and it will not be tolerated."

He added: "This is not about penalising respectful car enthusiasts, who do not wish to cause a disturbance and simply want to share their passion for cars

"It is about identifying those who engage in dangerous and anti-social acts and dealing with them."
