Plans for National Trust country park outdoor hub
- Published
The National Trust has submitted plans to develop one of its sites in Shropshire.
The scheme at Attingham Park in Atcham, near Shrewsbury, includes an outdoor hub building with a visitor welcome area, cafe and food and drink kiosks.
Plans also include the addition of a kitchen, toilets, welfare facilities, and bike hire and maintenance to the 18th Century country estate.
Builders Ove Arup & Partners said the outdoor hub would be able to accommodate 350,000 visitors a year within 10 years of opening.
A car park with electric vehicle charging would also be included, along with a refurbishment of a former World War Two runway and aerodrome.
Elsewhere, the project features new and restored site routes, eight miles (13km) of trails, wildlife viewing and children's play areas.
James Vince, from Ove Arup & Partners, said the plans would create a new "distinct experience" from the site's current facilities.
He said it would give visitors a place to "immerse themselves in the countryside".
The proposed hub will comprise a core area of about 27.5 hectares.
Anyone who wishes to comment about the scheme can do so via Shropshire Council's planning portal by 7 February.
