Firefighters remain at the scene of a bungalow fire in Charing

A woman has been taken to hospital after an explosion at a bungalow in Kent.

The family's dog was also handed into the care of a vet after emerging from the rubble following the incident in Canterbury Road, Charing at 11:41 BST.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) sent five fire engines and a bulk water carrier to the scene.

A KFRS spokesperson said "all hotspots have been extinguished" and firefighting operations were complete at 21:30.

Firefighters said Kent Police were managing the scene and the road would remain closed until further notice.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion would begin when it was safe to do so, they added.

South East Coast Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
