Firefighters have spent the night tackling a large blaze at a landfill site.

Crews from Dorset and Hampshire were called to the Onyx site on the B3081 between Ringwood and Verwood shortly after 21:00 BST.

About 40 firefighters attended at the height of the incident and used plant machinery to turn over the rubbish to help put out the flames.

Residents were warned to keep doors and windows closed.

High-volume water pumping equipment was set up at the entrance to Ebblake industrial estate and along the B2081.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said residents may have noticed a reduction in mains water pressure as a result of the pumping system.

The incident was scaled back at 02:00 but crews remained at the scene on Tuesday morning.
