People are advised to contact South Derbyshire District Council if they are unsure a caller is from the authority

A council has warned of rogue callers operating in parts of Derbyshire who claim to represent the authority.

South Derbyshire District Council issued a public safety notice urging residents to ask for identification if approached and not to allow callers into their home unless they are certain of their identity.

A spokesperson said: "These individuals may attempt to gain access to properties or obtain personal information under false pretences."

If people are uncertain, they are advised to contact the council directly to verify whether a visit has been arranged, or contact the police if they feel unsafe.
