A man who armed himself with a broken bottle and used it as a weapon to slash another man's face in Nottingham has been jailed.
Abubakarr Haruna left his victim with a facial wound that required surgery after attacking him in the early hours of 11 August, Nottinghamshire Police said.
The 39-year-old, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon in public.
He was handed an extended custodial sentence of 10 years and eight months at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday. He will serve six years and eight months in prison and four years on licence.
CCTV images showed Haruna arguing with the man about 15 minutes before the assault.
While his victim walked away following the dispute, Haruna followed him and rummaged through a nearby bin, police said.
Having grabbed two glass bottles from the bin, Haruna smashed one of them and ran towards the man.
After catching up with him in Wheeler Gate, he used the improvised weapon to slash his victim across the side of the face.
Det Sgt Nigel Malik said: "It should be left in no doubt whatsoever that Abubakarr Haruna meant to seriously hurt his victim during this horrible attack.
"His actions were both incredibly dangerous and cowardly, with the assault leaving the other man with a nasty gash across his face that required surgical treatment."
