A woman and a teenage girl have been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child.

Humberside Police said they were called by paramedics to a property on Searby Road in Scunthorpe at about 09:00 GMT on Monday 10 November, where a six-year-old boy was suffering a medical episode.

The child was taken to hospital but died a short while later. The 38-year-old woman remains in custody, while the 17-year-old girl has been released on bail.

Det Ch Insp Ben Robinson said: "An investigation has been launched whilst we carry out lines of inquires to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child's death, which is currently being treated as unexplained."

A scene guard remains in place, police added.
