Dog walker seriously hurt and pet killed in crash
The woman, in her 80s, and the dog were struck near Meadowside in Sunderland

A woman in her 80s was seriously injured and the dog she was walking died when they were struck by a car.
They were near the junction of Meadowside and the A690 in Sunderland when the crash happened just after 09:15 BST on Thursday.
The woman remains in hospital in a stable condition but the dog died at the scene.
Northumbria Police said the driver remained at the scene and had been "assisting" with their inquiry.
The force has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
