People living in the Cotswolds spotted a romantic message flying overhead on Saturday morning.

The banner, which read "Nic, will you marry me?!" was carried by a plane over the Stroud area, with residents of Cashes Green, Randwick, Westrip, and Amberley left wondering who had been popped the question, and what their answer was.

It has since been revealed that Nic Curtis, who had travelled to Stroud from Kent for a birthday getaway with partner Paddy Nicholls, was the woman being proposed to, and she said "yes".

Ms Curtis told BBC Radio Gloucestershire she was "very, very shocked" to be proposed to, although it was her fiancé's third attempt.

Mr Nicholls said other attempts to propose to Ms Curtis had been rained off

Mr Nicholls said he booked the romantic cabin break for Ms Curtis' birthday, after the pair watched TV show Clarkson's Farm together and she said she would like to visit the Cotswolds.

Although he said the accommodation he booked seemed the "perfect place" to propose, it was a case of third time's the charm due to the weather putting a dampener on previously planned proposals.

"First time around was the day before Christmas Eve, I had it planned locally," Mr Nicholls said.

"My idea was that we were going to have my little boy there with us, and I'd point out the plane to him and be on one knee ready for the proposal, I suppose.

"It didn't go as planned because I had a text message from the pilot saying he wasn't able to get down due to the weather."

The plane caught the eye of many residents, who posted about what they had seen on social media, wondering if Nic had accepted the proposal

The pair eventually got engaged over the weekend on the terrace of their cabin, as they ate breakfast and took in the Gloucestershire countryside.

"I thought it was the perfect place to do it," Mr Nicholls said.

"We haven't set a date yet, I think it will be a couple of years - we're doing the house up."
