UK's oldest Flymo inducted into lawnmower museum

The 53-year-old blue Electric 38A is the oldest known Flymo in the UK

The UK's oldest Flymo lawnmower, which has been passed through three generations of the same family, has been inducted into the lawnmower hall of fame.

The rare blue Flymo electric 38A was donated to the British Lawnmower Museum in Southport by Peter Goddard from Northamptonshire after he heard about a nationwide hunt to find the oldest surviving Flymo.

Mr Goddard said he was "amazed" his 53-year-old lawnmower was so special after previously trying and failing to sell it on at car boot sales.

It will be displayed alongside lawnmowers owned by King Charles, Brian May, Paul O'Grady and Alan Titchmarsh.

"I feel honoured," he said.

"I was just amazed I didn't expect anything like that."

The Flymo lawnmower, which has blades on an air cushion to make it easier to move, first went on sale in 1965.

Earlier this year the company launched a UK wide search to find the oldest surviving Flymo as part of its 60 year anniversary celebrations.

Mr Goddard said he could not believe his was the oldest in the UK, especially after the failed attempts to sell it.

He said he was pleased the mower would now be on display for everyone to see.

Brian Radam, owner of the British Lawnmower Museum on Shakespeare Street in Southport said it was a "nice addition" and would be displayed "among the lawnmowers of the rich and famous".
