Two people have been rescued from a dinghy off the coast of Guernsey, the coastguard has said.

The rescue service said it received a call at 14:15 GMT from the stricken vessel south of St Martin's Point.

The RNLI and Guernsey Air Search were alerted but The Herm trident passenger vessel reached the location first and located the stranded boat.

The coastguard said the dinghy was found drifting in difficult wind and tide conditions with two people clinging to the upturned hull.

Neither person suffered injuries and both were recovered from the water and taken to St Peter Port by the Inshore Lifeboat.

Search Mission Coordinator James Way said: "This was a successful search and rescue operation in challenging conditions.

"We would like to thank the master of Trident VI for his support today as well as the volunteer crews of our Lifeboats."
