A town centre market square will be transformed into somewhere for fans to enjoy the Women's Rugby World Cup this summer.

West Northamptonshire Council has announced that the square in Northampton will host the fan zone, which will feature a big screen and a licensed bar.

It will be open on each group matchday of the competition.

There will also be activities to celebrate women, sport, culture and local heritage, as well as live music and dance performances.

The fan zone is expected to be open on four days in August and September, with each day featuring different themes and entertainment:

  • 24 August - Technology and innovation (VR experience, simulators, inclusive sports tech)

  • 30 August - Festival vibes (live music, street entertainment, fan celebrations)

  • 31 August - Family fun (face painting, craft activities, mascots, rugby parade)

  • 7 September - Music and culture (local artists, community legacy art, live music)

The council is looking for performers, entertainers and food and drink vendors to get involved with the event.

The window to submit an "expression of interest", external will close on 30 April.
