A man who raped a woman while his partner and children slept upstairs has been jailed for nine years.

Jason Smith, of Kinross Road in Cambridge, forced himself on a "vulnerable" woman at a house in the city on 11 June 2023, Cambridgeshire Police said.

The force added that the victim repeatedly told him to stop, but he refused to listen.

Smith, 34, was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Monday after he was found guilty of three counts of rape at a trial in July.

Smith was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life and was handed a 10-year restraining order.

Det Sgt Jodie Bolton, of Cambridgeshire Police, praised the victim's courage for coming forward and the "strength and bravery" she showed during the investigation and trial.

"Without her bravery to keep supporting this investigation, we wouldn't have been able to receive this result," she said.

"This sentencing is a reminder that consent matters, no means no, and being intoxicated is no defence. We will always strive to bring offenders before the courts.

"We have a dedicated team of detectives and specially trained officers ready to investigate allegations promptly, fully and professionally, and a network of partnership agencies and support services to offer assistance and support."

The forced added that victims could also self-refer to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre., external
